J & J’s One Month

Yea! Finally Jasmine and Justice reach one month!  It seems like it would never get here, but it was time well spent.  As parents of multiples we have learned a lot about our babies and how to manage our time.  We haven’t perfected our routine, but we are learning.  We change as they change.

Here is our current schedule starting from their bath time (estimates):

8PM – start bath for whoever is the fussiest

  • After bath, feed, swaddle, and start on next baby

9:30PM – start sleep preparations

  • We are lucky if both get to sleep by 10PM
  • Mommy and daddy take care of their own needs such as floss, brush, clean kitchen and prep for the next day

1:00AM – Justice wakes

  • Daddy takes care of Justice by sheepishly caring Justice to kitchen
  • Prepare formula/breast milk
  • Feed, burp, change, feed, burp and put to sleep
  • During this time Jasmine wakes up and mommy breast feeds her in bed

2:00AM – Daddy prepares for next round

  • Daddy secures area and prepares for next feeding

5:00AM – Justice wakes again

  • Same routine as 1AM shift, except daddy is sleepier
  • Jasmine also wakes up for a feeding
  • Mommy gets up to change Jasmine

7:00AM – Justice wakes again

  • During the early morning Justice becomes more fussy
  • Gas starts to kick in and he really needs to do a ‘Number 2′
  • This activity will normally last for about 1 1/2 – 2 hours
  • Jasmine feeds and quickly goes to sleep

9:30AM – Justice squirms in his bed

  • By this time he is more awake and wails!
  • Mommy and Jasmine get up
  • Grandma gets up
  • Minik and Candy get up
  • Grandma take Minik and Candy to the backyard
  • Grandma comes back 1/2 hour later
  • Grandma takes over and tries to soothe Justice

10AM – Breakfast

  • Daddy makes breakfast for all
  • Mommy feeds Jasmine
  • Grandma tries to feed/entertain Justice
  • Daddy, Mommy, and Grandma all eat at separate times.  Daddy first!

11:30AM – Start of day

  • At this point we are entertaining J & J while trying to take care of house duties such as laundry and preparing shopping lists
  • If J & J are asleep, then we use this time for other activity like paying bills, catching up on Facebook, and returning phone calls and emails

1PM – Stir crazy

  • Around this time J & J have had enough rest and stimulation and now just cry just to hear their own voices
  • We have to be creative and do stuff like put them in their toy stations, walk them in our backyard, or take them for a car ride

2:30PM – Lunch

  • Everyone is physically exhausted and it’s time for lunch
  • We don’t normally have left overs, so Daddy picks something up from the local eateries
  • J & J try to get their afternoon nap during this time

5:00PM – Anything goes

  • Between 5 – 7:00 we don’t know what happens.  Everything is a blur and everyone is tired.

7:00PM – Dinner

  • Daddy, Mommy, and Grandma try to have dinner
  • Daddy and Mommy prepare for their baths

As you can see our first month was dedicated in putting this routine together.  We have plenty of work to do and we are sure we’ll make adjustments.  Nights are now manageable, but the day schedule still needs work.  Not sure how Mommy will deal with them once I go back to work and Grandma leaves back to Turkey.  God Bless Mommy and give her the strength and patience to manage them.   We pray that things will get better.

Summary of what we learned about J & J this month:

  • Justice prefers the convenience of the bottle
  • Jasmine needs Mommy’s scent and quick access to boobie to fall asleep
  • Justice can sleep in the playpen while Jasmine must sleeps with us
  • Jasmine is a very light sleeper
  • Justice is a heavy sleeper when swaddled tightly
  • Both burb easily when carried

  • LOL @ “Same routine as 1AM shift, except daddy is sleepier”!

Great to see that there is some sort of routine, as hectic as it is. It is really interesting reading about everything you two are going through! Wonder what it will be like when I have kids of my own but I am sooo not ready! lol.

(And yes I got loads of sleep for you, I will throw in a few more hours for you tonight! :P ) Take care and keep up the great work!

  • Thanks Debo, I’d like to say it’s getting easy, but maybe we’re just getting used to our routine.

We just started using our Baby Bjorn holders and it worked great! Now we could really enjoy being outdoors.

  • Oh God Maria the lack of sleep is definitely the killer part of having a kid (or two). People say get all your sleep now cause when they come you won’t get any. I knew that was true, but didn’t listen. So yes, please get in some sleep for me. I’ll need it :)

  • I haven’t taken care of Shaynna full-time. But during my time with her, it was so hard getting some sleep, or even taking a bath! But yes, things will get better. A few months later, both will sleep at least 6 hours straight. :) Enjoy every moment of it because it really feels so good to know that your babies depend on you 100%.

God bless you both and your little angels…
