Twins Challenge – Week Three

Family — By Rolando on August 24, 2009 10:32 pm

I have to make this quick because they are both asleep.  This scenario is a luxury for us.  There are a lot of things that we took for granted before Justice and Jasmine came.  Quiet walks, romantic dinners, exotic vacations, etc.  All that is a distant memory now.

This week has been the most challenging so far.  People say ‘twins are a blessing’.  Little do they know the work it actually takes to raise multiples.  Let’s start with the basics, for example:

  • Crying.  When one cries, you have to shush them as to not wake the other.  It takes us hours to get them calm and restful again.  This is not fun at 3AM.
  • Sleep.  Never mind about sleep.  This is gone forever.  At night we’re lucky to get sleep 2-3 hours.  Day time, forget about it.
  • Communication.  It is definitely confusing trying to understand their different cries and body language.  We feed them for all their signs lol.
  • Bodily Functions.  OMG!  The difference between hunger pains, stuck gas, needing to poop, and the lack of burping is a fine line.  It’s sometimes hard to tell this with our own bodies never mind an infants.  When they have constipation or gas, you don’t want to be in the same room.  Their cry is piercing.

Our patience has definitely been tested this week.  God, give us the strength to take care of them.  It’s only been three weeks.  People are saying it gets better after 4-6 months or more.  I just hope we live that long or that people are just kidding.

I hope they read this someday and understand what we went through.

Note - Mommy only curses in Turkish when her patience is gone or when daddy does something wrong.  Remember that!

Hang in there and steal sleep where ever you can. Keep your vitamins and nutrition up as well and drink plenty of fluids. This is literally a marathon and not a sprint, the finish line is oh about eighteen years or so away. LOL! :)

Oh God I just hope to get through the first year lol. I try to take naps when ever I can (except at stop lights) and try to eat healthy, but it’s nearly impossible. I’m sure I’ll figure out a schedule.
