J & J Two Weeks Young

Family — By Rolando on August 13, 2009 at 4:41 pm

This week Jasmine and Justice are two weeks young.

Summary – both are doing well and have healthy appetites.   Jasmine prefers breast feeding over the bottle and Justice prefers the bottle cause he doesn’t have to work so hard to get as much as he wants and quickly as he can suck.

Milestone – this week both of their umbilical cords fell out.  Justice’s came first, then a couple of days later Jasmine’s.  We plan on taking their umbilical cords and burying them at some significant place in the area.  In both our cultures, the umbilical cord is buried at some place that will help them in their future.  So for example, if we want Justice to be a scholar, then we might bury his umbilical cord in front of the public library.  We’re still planning this out.

Mom and Dad – we are both exhausted to say the least.  Imagine having to be up almost every hour or so at night to feed one or the other.  Singleton parents have it made.  Although we try to sleep when they sleep during the daytime, it sometimes is not practical.  We both have to keep up with basic household chores like laundry, groceries, and most importantly eating.

So far we have figured out that it is best the my wife takes care of Jasmine at night and I take care of Justice.  Since Jasmine has more of a dependency on Ebru’s warm and easy access to food, she needs Ebru more.  Justice on the other hand is happy with the bottle at anytime of the day or night.

Changing their diapers is not bad and it’s not hard.  Just messy.  Justice has one more day until we stop applying Vaseline to his private part before his thingy is heeled from his circumcision.  After tomorrow we’ll just have to apply ointment to prevent diaper rash.

Ebru’s mom is still staying with us and helping where ever she can.  We appreciate the help, any help at this point.

Here are some new pictures.

Wow really I have never heard of that tradition? Is this Filipino culture? Because my boyfriend is Filipino. I’m texting him as I type to ask him about that.

But once again, CONGRATS on the twins! Glad that you two were blessed with 2 healthy bundles of joy. Also glad to see that you are sharing the duties and you seem to have everything worked out! Good luck and thanks for sharing the photos! And try to get some rest! :)

      Hi Maria,

The burying of the umbilical cord is in several cultures. See this link – http://childbirthteacher.com/did-you.html

We do feel bless and exhausted at the same time, but we know it’s worth it in the long run. It’s cool to get two done at the same time.

Thanks for you positive thoughts. We need it. More pics to come . . .

Yea you got a boy and a girl in one try, lucky! I have an aunt who gave up on getting a girl (has 4 boys) and another aunt with 3 girls and no boys. So yea, it’s tough but definitely worth it!

And thanks for the link! My boyfriend actually didn’t know about it… sheesh I have to teach him about his own culture! Lol. That’s very interesting though, something I will consider whenever I have kids. I like the burying by a young tree one, seeing them grow in unison. Very cool.

In the rural areas in the Philippines, some even just tie the umbilical cords in one of the house’s post. I dunno why they do that.

    They are both sooooo adorable!
Take lots of photos. They do grow up fast…

Really? Maybe for luck? We did plant theirs last week. One was at the State Capital and the other at the local University. We’ll know 18 or so years from now if it worked :) Meanwhile, we will take lots of photos and enjoy the moment.
