California Budget Shortfall

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger

We are now 13 days behind in coming up with a solution for California’s budget.  The impact to the State and citizens of California is devastating.

In Sacramento alone our neighborhoods will suffer with the layoff of police and firefighters.  Our children will also suffer because of the cutback of programs and shut down of schools.  Furlough Fridays and increases in prices all around is hurting us all and no one is getting pay increases in the foreseeable future.

So it means we’re less safe, have to spend more, and be more stressed with the lack of  job security.

This is certainly not a healthy or safe environment for us.  While we support the budget cutback policies of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, it’s definitely getting harder and harder to bare each day that the budget does not get resolved.

We pray that the lawmakers get their act together, agree to disagree, and make a decision now!

  1. I used a program at the LA Times to balance California’s budget. Your state needs to cut it’s expenses by 50% …. wildly out of control.
That’s what happens when a million illegal immigrants come across the border and suck the system dry. Add the recent housing crash and you have catastrophe.
Rolando … we as a people have crossed the line where even with MASSIVE taxation on the “working”, there are simply too many citizens on state and FED programs. Time to cut the cord, or your state will collapse on itself. That is fact – and one that needs to sink in QUICK.

    Liberal thinking does not “work”

You’re absolutely right Speedy. We know something drastic has to be done. It just hurts as we try to get through this. It’s scary to think about how far the damage will reach.

I was just out in California a week or so ago-San Diego. And although the weather was really nice, I didn’t feel safe AT ALL. The homelessness in that city is sickening as well as frightening. I have been to cities where the homeless congregate in the center of town, but this was ridiculous. They were flopped all over statues and monuments, so much for getting any good photos. I was sitting eating dinner alfresco and dude peered over the shrub to say “You shouldn’t be eating alone”

There has to be a way, money to get these people off the streets and into a shelter or mental facility if needed, but to lay out in the hot sun all day all over the city even in the outskirts and beaches is completely unacceptable.

And you are saying they are going to be cutting back on police and fire, which is insane. What are they thinking cuts need to be made somewhere, but not at the cost of the safety of the citizen.

Hey Debo, you were in Cali and didn’t even call? j/k.

I could live with homeless people being around. I was born and raised in San Francisco, so I am used to that. But the lack of safety is not something anyone of us should have to live with.

Yes the cutbacks will mean less police and fire people to protect us and we do not have any rights to protect ourselves outside the home. Any service does does come our way will be prioritized. The nearest police will now be 20 mins or more away.

Not sure where else they can cut. They will already be making cutbacks to schools and other services. It’s sad and scary.

I hope they make a decision today so we can really know what to expect.
