Scratch My Back

Remember the good ole days of ‘I Scratch Your Back, You Scratch Mine’?  Today it’s more like ‘I Scratch Your Back, You Stab Mine’.  Seriously, what is up with everyone?!

Has the scare of the economy have all us fighting and being more competitive?  Have reality shows glamorized the payoffs of being single minded?  Someone help me understand.

Remember when you helped a friend move.  You got up early on a Saturday morning, dragged yourself out of bed, and put on your moving clothes just to help ‘a friend‘ in need.  A friend that you’ve known for years and went through thick and thin.  A friend that you supported at work or school.  A friend you bought cookies for fund raising events.  A friend that you helped out of a jam.  A friend whose family you’ve supported in one way or another.  A friend that you thought would return the favor someday.  Remember those days?  I surely do and unfortunately, they don’t.

This tells me a few things.

1.  The people I thought were friends aren’t

2.  The family members I thought were genuinely concerned aren’t

3.  That I shouldn’t expect anything from anyone regardless of the favors I do for them or regardless of our relationship or past experience together

4.  Cherish your friends and family who have the best intentions for you and for all.

There was a time in my life when I would do things unconditionally and without complaint.  A smile and a handshake was all it took.  But now as I’m older with a few more life lessons under my belt, it isn’t so easy to help mankind without some sort of expectation in return.

I’m all of a sudden in that ‘what’s in it for me?’ mentality.  I help you, you help me is how it’s gonna be from now on lol.

  1. I’m truly sad to hear that because of a few bad eggs your innate ability to be kind to others has been damaged. And that you feel like you have to protect yourself from getting hurt again. I’m sorry for whatever circumstances happened that made you feel this way. if its any consolation I’ve also lost many a friends and family members over the years because THEIR behavior was unacceptable.

It really sucks, but you know that’s how life is sometimes. I’m just gonna deal with it and move on without the people who I thought were friends. It just amazes me what great acting talents they have. They should have Oscars 10x over lol.

Yeah it’s amazing to learn who your real friends are Rolando. I don’t know if it’s the reality shows but we live in a selfish country. It’s applauded and rewarded.

I guess I’ve been naive all these years. We do live in a selfish country. I see that now with my eyes wide open. It’s just unbelievable.

Oh I hear you big time loud and clear. Being part of a fundrasier has taught me a lot about Family and Frineds. My fundraiser page keeps track of every person’s name that has donated thus far and to date only one family member has donated and that is my duahgter-in-law and none of my so called friends have. My co-workers have been the only ones to step up and help me when I need help.

Yet, I slep crap around for my sister and help her get prepared for her son’s graduation, help her to get her house cleaned and when that is not going as well as she’d like I say hey why don’t we just have the party at my place. Come the end of the night she has her kids pack up all her things from the poolhouse but leaves my crap there.

It’s amazing how caught up people get in their own needs. Selfish is the word I am looking for. I can harldy wait for this fundraiser to be over so I can cast all these losers out of my life and only associate with them If I Need Something. How’s that for payback.

OMG Debo you hit the nail right on the head! I just don’t understand how people can be so selfish. Don’t they know that we can see right through that? That just amazing me the people will think we won’t notice or remember the things we’ve done for them.

Sorry to hear about your fundraiser. I know what you mean about that too. We just recently had an event at our house and even had a website to track donations.

Most people didn’t even use the website, they decided they knew what we wanted. Even family members skimped out. Our truck club members came on time and stuck by the website requirements.

Our event is over. We know who we’ll be keeping in touch with and those that we won’t give the time of day lol.
