Wear It Well

Lessons — By Rolando on February 19, 2009 at 4:31 pm

Through out my adulthood I have always tried to keep up with fashion.  It was sort of an experiment.  There was some styles that were just too much to carry and others just too darn expensive.  After awhile I got tired keeping up and just decided to pick one style and go with it.

I decided that the Classics was going to be my style.  By classics I mean picking out clothes that never go out of style.  There are some pieces of clothing that every guy should have.  Everything after that is just fluff.

Classics doesn’t mean expensive either.  I am talking about jeans, white t-shirt, black slip-ons, and a navy pea coat.  I am talking about a basic black dial watch with leather strap and a basic black leather belt.  This isn’t anything fancy, but with this set up you will never be out of style.

Classic doesn’t mean boring.  Classic means having the basics so you can build upon it and make it your own.  It means having a white dress shirt with french cuff and accessorizing with mother of pearl and sterling silver cuffs.  It means adding to a foundation that is already a fashion statement.

Patterns and colors are also an important consideration when picking out Classic styles.  You have to find out what best suits you.   You have to take a close look at yourself and see what best suits your body type, skin color, eye color, etc.  When you find the right combination of clothes and styles, you can accentuate your God given gifts.

Regardless of the style you choose, pick a style that you are comfortable and confident with.  Your style could be sweats pants and an Old Navy t-shirt shirt (or just a thong), but if you wear it with style and with confidence, then you could probably get away with just about anything.

    Thanks for this kuya Ro. I’d never tried to keep up with fashion. I’ve just started and still searching for what’s good for me. You’re right. Without confidence, one wouldn’t look good no matter how expensive one’s wearing.

    ROLANDO!!!!! Sorry to shout I just want to make sure you hear this. ARE YOU LISTENING!!!!

    Dude this post is so well written!!!! From word one I thought I was reading GQ or one of the other high end fashion magazines. You have found your mojo with this post.

    I have a closet full of clothes and not one of them can be considered a classic, so after a couple of season I can’t wear them anymore.

    Beginning this Spring I am going to focus on creating a classic foundation on which to build. I guess I should expand that thought into every aspect of my life.

    Keep up the great work!!!!:)

    Yea, not all styles fit all. Some people, including celebrities don’t look in the mirror before they leave the house lol. I hope you find a style that fits you. It’s fun finding out thou.

    oh wait I see it. It was caught by my spam plug in sorry. I’ll approve it.

    @Debo Hobo
    Thanks Debo! I’m listening lol. I’m not a model by any means or a fashion expert, but I have eyes and I know when something looks good on a person. Some people just don’t have an eye for fashion or they wear something that is in fashion, but doesn’t suit their body style. Either that or they have broken all mirrors in their homes lol.

    For women, it’s different. They have so many options and they can have many styles. I’m sure you have some fun stuff in your closet and that’s the way it should be for women.

    Thanks for your comments and sorry your original comment got caught in spam hell.

    You’re welcome, Kuya. But now, I can’t believe I did that! I might have shared lots of photos with me on it, but I’ve never imagined putting up my voice and/or video in the net! Oh well, this might lead me to creating a vlog soon! ha ha!

    This plug-in is really cool…

    I am not a fashion expert to but I like to wear something that just stated who I am, a simple person.
    See you around.

  15. Rolando says:

    @lunaticg
    Simple is good. This way you don’t get caught up in fashion. So long as you’re confident in being a simple person, then that’s all you need :)

    Rolando – I really liked this post. Fashion conscious, eh? What’s interesting is that as you were describing jeans, white shirt, black slip ons, etc., it was almost like getting a visual of you in my mind. :)
    I tend to dress on the Classical side myself, and will occasionally throw on something ‘trendy’ to sometimes mix it up a bit. But I do tend to go with time-less pieces.

    I also am intrigued with this audio comment piece. Very Cool Rolando! Very Cool! I had gone to the website to see how to add it to my blog but unfortunately it states it’s only allowed for Wordpress for right now. :(

    I hope all is well with you. I haven’t done a lot of Blog-hopping lately and had been thinking of you recently so I wanted to pop in and say Hello. :)

    Hey ZZ, sorry that your first comment was put in the spam queue. I switched spam plugins so it has to re-learn everyone’s IP.

    I think there are some people that can get away with just about any style because they carry themselves with so much confidence. I like the trendy stuff but I just have to watch out that I’m not trying to dress like a kid lol.

    Mixing it is good. For women, I’m sure it means being ’stylish’.

    The new comment plugins are cool. Hopefully, it will be available for other platforms so we could all leave each other video/audio comments. Except I wouldn’t leave one right now. I have bed head lol.
